  • In the U.S. political system, which is at the top of the political party?

I’ve been attending local political club meetings and learning how grassroots efforts tie into national politics. I keep hearing about county chairs and DNC leaders—so now I’m wondering: who actually sits at the top of the party pyramid?

At the top? It’s technically the National Party Committee—so, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) or the Republican National Committee (RNC), depending on the party. These bodies oversee strategy, fundraising, and national convention planning. They’re not elected by the general public, but they hold serious influence over messaging, party rules, and the presidential nomination process.
